US deficits in the trillions, not billions

If the US government followed standard accounting practices, the proper way to report the annual deficit would be in the trillions.  I thought it was bad before I knew that.  Now it's just a disaster.  Future costs are going to absolutely sink a US president at some point in the next 10 years if nothing is done.
